More Arnold

Spent today between the Attick and the office developing the Arnold Binns project. Good to have space to walk around while constructing a script.

Nice to see a few folk around today. Talk of a pre christmas open house/showing of work for the Parlour which sounds good.

Here's a picture of a weird kind of rollerskate

Arnold Binns

I've spent much of today researching Arnold Binns, the endurance rollerskater from the 1930's purported to have skated from John O'Groats to Lands End. Emma and I decorated our room here the other week so it's a far nicer place to work now and the Blackboard Door works a treat for sketching out ideas on a large scale. The Occupy Bristol site accross the road is growing and looking more interesting each day. Here is a picture of Arnold.

Currently my focus is on the design and construction of masks for Jessie Percival's new project 'Following the White Rabbit'.

Here is an image of the prototype masks in use at The Harborside Festival. I am working on a developed design that will be ready at the end of the month.

Returned from Glastonbury alive... just

Hello I'm Emma Callander, a new comer to this lovely creative haven The Parlour.

I've just returned home to Bristol after co-directing Arcadia's 2011 Glastonbury spectacular. It was the most beautifully epic experience. I'd encourage you all to take on the challenge of devising, building and rehearsing an ambitious circus show in a field of mud in the rain in 11 days, it can only make you stronger!

Thank you to each and every incredible person that helped make it happen.

Here's a short film edit of the show (mixed in with an Orbital gig on the Arcadia stage)

And links to the images and info on Arcadia

Straight into directing the next Prince's Trust show with Travelling Light on Monday morning so I'll let you all know more of that as it unfolds...

Howl's Moving Castle

Last Night we found out that our show for the Southwark Playhouse in London this Christmas has been signed off!!!

We will create and direct the show but we have a really nice line up including Andy Serkis as consulting director, Fyfe Dangerfield as composer and the BBC for R&D.

We have now installed ourselves in the attic room to experiment with the set and the projections for the show.

The Girl with Two Tone Hair

After showing our installation "The Girl with Two Tone Hair" during the "Happening at the Parlour" we go a bursary in order to exhibit it at the Quenington Sculpture show which opened on the 18th of June.
It has been very successful and we sold one edition to a gallery :)

The Girl with two Tone Hair is a 3D music video, an installation in which a love story is projected onto the notes of a pinboard. The 2D version of the music video can be seen here but the actual installation is much more exciting...

Helios's Chariot Of The Sun & Solar Steeds (Annelies Puddy)

This summer Rolling Stage will be rolling out Helios's Chariot of The Sun pulled by his Solar Steeds at festivals across the country.
I have been leading a team to design and make this chariot and hybrid Greek Warrior Horse costumes.
Admittedly I have not been able to use The Parlour to physically build all of this!
Thanks also to Roseanne Wakely and The Puppet Place for their support.

Paper Wedding Flowers (Annelies Puddy)

I have been commissioned to design and make some alternative table decorations for a June wedding. These bespoke decorations have been made out of old recipes, due to the brides love for cookery.
The past few weeks in my studio at The Parlour have been a process of lovingly cutting and folding to get 18 of these decorations crafted in time!

Bird Boxes (Annelies Puddy)

As part of a Launch Night for Cross Collaborations I have been making some Bird Boxes; using sheet music to cover bird boxes that housed creeping plants edging their way outwards, I installed 5 of these little homes around the space to add to the Outside/In atmosphere of the evening.

Screen Printing (Annelies Puddy)

Totally enjoying being in a new space I have found myself experimenting with new ideas. Screen Printing has been something I have always loved and so I decided to do a few prints and pop one in the PaperGirl Exhibition in the gallery space below The Parlour.

Annelies Puddy's new Studio at Interval

Hello :)

I am a member of Interval and have decided to make use of one of the smaller Interval spaces as my studio!
I am really excited about using this space - a fantastic opportunity to be regularly at The Parlour; I will be using the studio to design and make installations, costumes and event decorations.
The room will also be available as an alternative work space for other Interval members if our office is full or someone needs to shut their self away and work overlooking the beautiful College Green.

If you would like to see more of what I have been up to please have a look at my blog
www.anneliespuddy.blogspot.com
and I will be sure to post on The Parlour blog as well.

If I'm in, come and say hi and have a cup of coffee :)

The Icebook

We finally managed to film and document The Icebook at the Parlour and since the trailer went online we had a few TV features from Japan (NHK) and France (Canal+). It has also be published in Contagious Magazine and Digital Arts.

Breathing Life Into The Parlour (via Ali's blog)

Lots of sorting out in the building but one that I know well having spent four weeks here in May during Mayfest when we did SS Arcadia. Our new office looks out onto College Green and the Cathedral, a very distracting view with its constant flow of people, performers, protesters, tourists, hen and stag parties, and the top deck of the double deckers level with the window, then awesome in the snow with the the new moon over the cathedral, lights in the trees and a freezing night. Our opening weekend 17/18/19 December was a kind of miracle after a marathon of cleaning and transformation of the old Sandwich Box into the Ginger Cafe. The rooms upstairs shifting and accomodating Davy and Kristin McQuire’s ‘Ice Book’, ‘Peep Show Pleasure’ and the delight of finding his animated pin board ‘The Girl with the Two Toned Hair’ in the passageway. You could enter Cat Attaway’s 3D world in the SS Arcadia lift, and Silje Ensby’s calm installation in the old ship’s boutique.

Up the stairs passed Interval’s new spaces, I was sorry to miss their performances on Friday night and Sunday as I was busy in the Ginger cafe and then unable to get in due to the snow.
On up to the top floor under the glass dome at the top of the stairs, the top deck, and the surprise of Stand + Stare’s beautiful bell tent pitched under a blue sky and clouds, and drawn into the 1970
s world of ‘The Children of modernity’.

A burst of energy and creativity in a building which must be taking a deep breath after sitting empty for so long.
